Special VALENTINE'S DAY

"Speed Dating in ENGLISH"

It is an original and productive way to :

- Practice your English orally (listening/speaking)

- Meet like-minded individuals from the opposite sex for friendship or more

During Speak Dating events, you will meet about 10 participants (opposite sex) for a 7-minute interview with each participant… ALL in ENGLISH!

At the end of this Speak Dating event, tell our staff which participant(s) you would like to meet again. If s/he agrees, we will give you her/his contact. 
If no match is made, no contact will be disclosed.

Number of participants: 10 ladies and 10 gentlemen.

PRICES?

1. Ladies OR subscribers: 15€ (1 drink included)
2. Gentlemen (non subscribers): 20€ (1 drink included).

WHEN & WHERE?

Tuesday 14 February 7pm till 9pm.

Warning: the session starts at 7PM sharp... or you will not be able to participate!

HOW is SPEAK DATING organized? 

1. Register for a specific time & place: Tuesday 14 February 2017, from 7pm @Denfert Café.

2. On D-day, our staff will issue a number for each participant, that you must keep.

3. You will hear all the details and receive a personal sheet, to keep records of your matches.

4. From 7:30 pm, you will sit at a table for your first interview… Speak Dating begins!

5. After 7 minutes you will hear the bell. Women remain seated… MEN move to next table.

6. Repeat this activity for another 10 interviews, until about 8:45 pm.

7. Give our staff your “Matching Sheet” with the number(s) of your favorite participants.

8. The next day, you will receive an email with your results and matches. If other participants        
    agree to see you again, we will send you their contact.

HOW to improve your ENGLISH speaking skills?

1. Make sure you communicate ONLY in ENGLISH!

2. Listen to what your partner has to say.

3. Respect the topic that your partner has chosen. If you don’t know what to talk 
    about, pick a topic from the “Ice Breaker” list provided.

4. Don’t hesitate to correct each other. Peer correction is both easy and effective.

5. Avoid spending too much time looking up words in your dictionary. Spontaneity is key!

6. Remember: better speak with mistakes… than not speak at all!
 

HOW to improve your SOCIAL skills?

1. Dress appropriately: this is not a job interview… nor a sports event!

2. Smile and be polite: familiarity breeds contempt 

3. Be original: always ready for a good challenge?

4. Maintain eye contact: be self-confident.

5. Let your body do the talking: body-language says more than words!

6. Listen before you speak: s/he will appreciate

7. Listen more than you speak: for monologues, you can stay home 

8. Don’t let the cat out of the bag: don’t say everything at once.

9. Think (and act) positive: always a plus!

10. Read between the lines: non-verbal communication speaks volumes!

11. Play the game: even if you’re bored, keep it up… 3 more minutes till the next interview

12. Take it easy! Even if you don’t have a match… you get 75 mn of ENGLISH conversation!
