The following charts illustrate the quantity of Japanese travelled abroad from Japan from 1985 till 1995.
The second chart shows the percentage of Japanese visited Australia.
The number of Japanese travellers went abroad between 1985 and 1995 increased in 3 times (from 5 to 15 millions people).
The tourism abroad rose gradually till 1990 and dropped slightly in 1991.
Then, the travelling abroad continued it`s rise till 1995.
The percentage of Japanese tourists visited AU fluctuated constantly.
In 1985 only 2 % of Japanese visited AU, however, the number of tourists from Japan started rising and reached almost 5 % in 1989.
From 1990, after a sharp decrease to 4,2 %, the percentage of travellers from Japan resumed the growth and reached a peak of 6,3 % in 1994.
However, there was a slight drop to 6 % in 1995.
To sum up, the number of Japanese tourists travelled abroad rose constantly, nevertheless, the popularity of AU as a sightseeing direction wasn`t constant during this period.
Even though, the percentage of Japanese travelled to AU increased in over 3 times during this particular decade.
