Hi everybody, I introduce myself : My name is Antoine and i’m in IR2 I would like you speak about ants at home.

I will not speak about ants you can meet in your kitchen… Some people like to have fish in a beautiful aquarium.

Some people like to have a snake in a vivarium.

And other people like to have Ants in an artificial anthill.

Why raising ants ? Why not ?

It's the only one species who work together to build a home, to hunt a meal and to protect their queen.

What is the interest of raising ants ?

- Firstly, you need to have a passion for Ants.

- Secondly, It's the only one species who work together to build a home, to hunt a meal and to protect their queen.

- An addition you learn a lot of knowledge about the ants’ life.

- Besides it’s very easy to maintain the anthill because the ants don’t need a lot of food/water.

(if you give an strawberry, the ants don't eat all, they will conserve it for one or two weeks) - Finally there are a lot of species of ants To raise ants, you need : - An artifical anthill - A colony, - food for ant (you can't give fruit of the super market because they contains pesticide) - And a heat lamp to maintain the anthill at the good temperature.

Some species of ants ?

Colony Lasius Niger nicknamed the black ants and that you can meet in your garden.

Colony Messor barbarus live in the south of France in the Mediterranean region.

With their large pliers they can dig into the dry ground.

Colony Crematogaster scutellaris live in the south of France in the Mediterranean region too.

They are easily recognizable by their red head.
