About some fragile construction we can say that it ‘is held together by a good/honest word’ (держится на честном слове) or in a more colloquial way ‘is held up by sniffles’ (держится на соплях) which in English could be ‘to be held together with spit’.
Ты лучше не играй с этим домиком, он держится на соплях.
Поставь его и не трогай больше, а то разломается.
You’d better don’t play with this toy house, it is held up by sniffles.
Put it on the table and don’t touch it again or it will fall apart.
Все в этом доме держится на честном слове.
Непонятно, как это он еще не развалился.

It’s a mystery to me how does it still stand.
When something is bound to happen soon we often say that it is hanging from the nose (висит на носу) or that it is on the nose (на носу).
The English equivalent is ‘just around the corner’.
Мы не успеем снять домик в горах.
Они уже все заняты.
Каникулы ведь уже (висят) на носу.
We won’t be able to book a chalet in the mountains.
They are all occupied already.
The holidays are on the nose.
Новый год уже на носу, а еще не купила никому подарков! Ужас!
Сегодня же побегу по магазинам.
The New Year is on the nose and I still haven’t bought any presents. Terrible!
