Text from Clarinetto - English

  • About money

  • It is widely believed that, nowadays, money has become more and more important: common people are unhealthily curious about the lifestyles and habits of the rich.
  • Many famous people who routinely appear in newspapers and gossip magazines are neither actors nor politicians – they achieved their fame just by virtue of their wealth.
  • Given this attitude towards rich people, it could be said that mostly believe that money can buy happiness; but it is true that aiming to become rich (instead of simply achieving financial security) could prove counterproductive.
  • This eagerness often leads people to work too much in order to have money that they do not even need and that they will probably not be able to spend.
  • On the other hand, it cannot be denied that, to a certain extent, money does actually make happiness: while there is but a weak correlation between being rich and being happy, economical hardships and unhappiness are in most cases strongly linked, since the important role played by financial security in the life of an individual cannot be denied.
  • In conclusion, it is true that modern society is unhealthily obsessed with money and fame; but it has to be said this, it has its positive features: it is, for example, less rigid, allowing in most cases people to climb the so called "social ladder".
