When learning a second language, reading is necessary even if you only aim at bettering your speaking fluency level.
Sounds odd, isn't it?
Didn't you notice that it was harder to concentrate on your pronunciation while you were struggling to find the right word or the right phrase?
But don't read only with you eyes.
Read pen in hand.
My little piece of advice would be to proceed this way:
- buy cheap books you can pen on pages without any remorse,
- when reading, just underline the words you don't understand and the phrases you are not used to.
- some days later, get back to your book.
Study the vocabulary you have found out and write it down - everybody's memory is so bad!
- Don't write lists.
Lists are good for shopping, not for learning.
- Write out word clusters.
Would you like to know what word clusters can be? OK.
I'll tell you next time.
Thank you for your corrections and comments.
