  • Sermon. Part 1

  • Dear friends, I am a Christian (sorry to hurt your religious views if so) and need your help to adjust my translation into the article style (for a web-site) with more harmonious and appropriate words or phrases (if you feel they are needed please don’t hesitate to add them), many thanks in advance!
  • The Sermon of Mr. V at the Sunday Service in the “Good News” Church, Naberezhnye Chelny 05.10.2014 called “Altar unto the Lord”.
  • We have a service of the Eucharist today.
  • It is a moment of high importance when we stand before the Lord when we get a part of His sanctuary.
  • One can say it is like an examination for us.
  • Let’s read from the book of Genesis, chapter 8, verses 20-22: quotation.
  • Also chapter 9, verses 1-7: quotation.
  • I would like to talk on the theme “Altar unto the Lord”.
  • We see that the trying and difficult road of Noah and his family has finished, as it might seem.
  • All living perished but they have survived.
  • What should they start from?
  • As we read Noah built an altar unto the Lord.
  • Noah realized that he should be thankful to God for saving his life, and family, that God had chosen Noah.
  • Let’s draw our attention to the words “the LORD smelled a sweet savour”.
  • It means that the sacrifice was pleasant to the Lord.
  • I’d like to notice also that all animals and birds were not in abundance of population but strictly counted.
  • Noah had to take care of all of them, to feed them.
  • Separating himself from them, he puts them onto the alter with gratitude.
  • And God saw Noah’s thankful heart and thus the sacrifice was a pleasant savour for God.
  • Noah was not too much planning of what they would eat afterwards but took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings.
  • How important it is, dear friends, brothers and sisters, when we come the Lord in prayers, that we could quit from all that we are bound to and offer to God our best time with gratitude.
  • Talking about the sacrifice and the Eucharist we understand their correlation as God looks at heart intents and condition of a man who offers a sacrifice.
  • And so we see that when God accepted the sacrifice, His heart got warm and merciful and He spoke: «I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; neither will I again smite any more every thing living».
  • God gives His promise.
  • The Lord got soft by the Noah’s sacrifice which was from all his heart.
  • And further we read in the chapter 9 and verse 1 that God blessed Noah and his sons.
  • But due to what reason?
  • There was offered a sacrifice, God smelled a sweet savour and made all His intents for Noah and his family good, and blessed them.
