  • World organisation and inequalities

  • On second thought, we can affirm that this map is really important so as to denounce World inequalities and to show the World Organisation.
  • In fact, like we said previously this map show the Global Human Development in 2011 thanks to the HDI ( Human Development Index).
  • This tool which was developed by the United Nations allows the geographers to measure and rank countries' levels of social and economic development based on four criteria: -Life expectancy at birth -mean years of schooling -expected years of schooling -gross national income per capita.
  • The HDI makes it possible to track changes in development levels over time and to compare development levels in different countries.
  • Furthermore, this index shall be between 0 and 1.
  • Thereby, we can see that the World Organisation is inequal because some countries have a High Human Development with HDI scores between 0,8 and 1,0 whereas some countries for their part have a low human development with HDI scores between 0,0 and 0,5.
  • When we look at the map, we are able to say that it's principaly the countries from the North ( the host countries) which have the higher scores and mainly the LDC's ( Least Developed Countries) which have the lowest scores.
  • Nevertheless, we can also affirm that the informations given by the Map are not totally true, this map have some limits.
  • As a matter of fact, if we take into account the message delivered by the UNDP ( United Nations Development Programme ): ''The HDI does not reflect on inequalities, poverty, human security, empowerment, etc ''.
  • If we want to see the world inequalites with more precisions, we have to look at a IHDI map ''Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index”.
  • Thanks to it, we could take into account not only the average achievements of a country on health, education and income, but also how those achievements are distributed among its population by “discounting” each dimension’s average value according to its level of inequality.
  • As a consequence, we can say the world is still organized between a north-south line with developed countries in the north and countries which are still living in a deep poverty.
