My name is Joana Mafalda Ferreira Mendes, I completed my masters degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in November 2014, at Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Porto (FFUP), the best pharmacy school in Portugal, and now I am intending to apply for the graduate programme in Regulatory Affairs in Novo Nordisk.
As a student with a masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences, I had the opportunity to gain a solid advanced formation in specific areas of health sciences and technology.
To support this formation, I joined the Pharmacology research group at FFUP.
This project promoted my involvement and interest in research activities and I joined the ERASMUS programme where I continued the development work of research in an internship at the Institute for Natural Products Research at UFRJ, in Brazil.
During the time that I lived in Brazil, I discovered that I have a passion for learning about other places and different cultures.
Outside of my comfortable zone, this experience has made me more independent, mature and open to the possibility of becoming a pharmacist in another country.
Today, I am sure this is my first choice and this is one of the main reasons that influenced me to join this programme.
Despite of completed course of the master degree, I never negleted other opportunities that this educational institution could offer me.
So, I was member of the Council of Representatives, like student representative, member of Students’ Association of FFUP, of Junior Association for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Mobility group of FFUP.
My passage by different student groups allowed me to work on many different projects in numerous departments realizing multiple tasks and developing different interpersonal, relationship and communication skills and I learned to work in team, where I was coordinated by others but and I coordinated too, and get along with people from different cultures, skills, perspectives and experience.
I developed an interest in regulatory affairs in that I came from a research group where anyone became more and more focused in research and I realized my interests lay more in a broader, bigger picture than a narrow picture on a project.
That's what first drew me to look around for other jobs and really attracted me to regulatory and I found a way to make a difference in patients’ lives participating in shepherding medical products from inception to market.
I think the opportunity to work at the interface between business and government regulations that a position in regulatory affairs can offered me is the best for me.
Despite of my lack regulatory affairs experience, I know that some of my characteristics can help me to become a good professional in this area, such as, to be very communicative, well organized, multi-task and love team and paperwork, and the approaching with different health authorities in different countries it will be very positive to my career.
The rotation of this programme encouraged me to apply because I know that I can learn many of new areas with brilliant professionals in regulatory affairs.
With my curiosity and my will to always learn more and more about different issues helps me to gain a lot of international experience in a world-leading company..
I am enjoying tackling new challenges and learning a new role in the organisation.
This opportunity to try something different is one of the key strengths of the Novo Nordisk Graduate Programme.
I always run after my goals and I want to work in an international and culturally-diverse organisation with all the opportunities that Novo Nordisk can to provide me.
It is one of the best international pharmaceutical company and I would like to have the opportunity to use my recently-acquired master’s degree to make a difference to patients and begin my career in an ambitious global pharmaceutical company like this, leader in diabetes care.
With this application letter I intend to show my ability to adapt to different environments and working areas.
I consider myself a dynamic, organised, adaptable and hardworking person with a critical spirit and sense of responsibility.
You will find me as a person accepting challenges and solving them with confidence.
I am highly motivated to work in regulatory area and I believe that the expertise I developed during my master will be an asset in this field.
Based on my knowledge, experience, background and achievements, I believe I am the right candidate for this outstanding programme.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Joana Mendes
