The story I'd like to interpret is entitled " Village School" and is written by Laurie Lee.
The author touches upon several crusial problems: the problem relationships between pupils, the problem of low educational level in village schools and the psychological problem.
The theme is relationships between newcomers and veterans.
Laurie Lee shows the reader the school life in a village school through his own experience.
The author reveals the drawbacks of school moments when a pupil comes a new team.
It is very difficult to find common interest and common language with other pupils.
The action takes place in village school. At the befinning of this story the author describes terrible conditions in the village school.
I'd like to quote: " It was a small stone barn divided by a wooden partions into two rooms..." It is an exposition.
In the plot of the story the author describes his first exciting acquaintance with the schoolmates and the village school.
Also, the author declares about cruelty at school.
I'd like to quote: " They picked me up bodily, kicking and bawling, and carried me up to the road." He arouses in us a feeling og sympathy by the main hero.
It is unfair when the crowd is against one person.
Also, the author uses a lot of stylistic devices.
For example: - simile, which makes speech more diverse.
I'd like to quote: " grit few in my face like shrapnel, spun me round like a top, I felt like a veteran." - metaphor, I'd like to quote: " the potato burned through my thigh".
- epithet, I'd like to quote: " smouldering temper".
The climax of this story is the scene in which Laurie was surrounded by guys and they mocked at him.
There are two main conflicts of this story: Man against environment, Man against himself.
In the first conflict the author reveals the attitude of the crowd against the newcomer.
The second conflict the author makes us look inside the main hero.
He makes us to touch his experiences.
In the first day of school the author is very timid, he is afraid his peers.
A week later he becomes more confident " like a veteran".
The author is the protagonist.
He is a dynamic round character.
Antogonists of this story are pupils, his teacher and the author's sisters.
On the whole I find the story to be interesting and involving.
The author wants to show us that there is crueity and violence in schools.
We should be careful for choosing our children's school.
It is important where the child will lean, communicate and develop.
The author wants to show us that children often friends against somebody.
In my opinion schools need qualified psychologists to avoid conflicts.
They can help to adapt newcomers.
