"El Cóporo" is an archeological place near to San José del Torreón, 15 km far away from Ocampo.
It's one of the most important places in the state.
The word "Cóporo" comes from a tarasca word that means "Sobre el camino grande".
Chichimecas-toltecas lived there and they lived from 500 a.C. to 900 a.C.
To get to "El Cóporo" you have to go by truck and then you can visit seven special places by walking.
The first place is a house that represents the culture.
This typical house had a stock where the natives kept their food, it had a room where women could cook and some rooms where they slept.
In the center of "El Cóporo" there's a ceremonial place where human sacrifices took place.
These sacrifices were a symbol of adoration to their Gods.
Also, with sacrifices the chichimecas showed power and control over their enemies.
There is a place that has four atypical stones, one with the appearance of a monkey, other that looks like a bottle, other that looks like women and the last one with the appearance of a pair of fingers.
