Ecological security is an integral part of national security.

Environmental threats are the environmental degradation and the depletion of natural resources, which has a direct impact on the economic situation in the country, as well as the awareness of globalization and the importance of environmental issues.

The constant growth of such problems associated with the conservation of a significant number of hazardous industries, the depletion of mineral reserves, water and biological resources, the absence of normative-legal regulation and proper oversight of non-nuclear radioactive waste, fuel cycle, necessitates the monitoring of economic security, which determines the relevance of this study.

The aim of the article is a comprehensive assessment of ecological security of Russian Federation in Federal districts.

The study substantiated the theoretical aspects of ecological security; calculated indicators of ecological security of Russian Federation in Federal districts, which were then normalized to a normalized to the value produced by the comparison with the threshold values according to the method of monitoring the economic security indicators.

The use of difficult normalizing functions has enhanced the ability to visualize results and to define economically viable “risk zones’, removals of indicators reflecting the degree from their threshold values.

This gave the opportunity to identify specific threats to the environmental security of Russian Federation and to propose appropriate solutions.

The main provisions of the article can be used by the Ministry of natural resources and ecology of Russian Federation and its subordinate services, Department of Federal service for supervision in the sphere of nature in each Federal district.
