After 2 decades, having impressively grown the economy which was primarily based on investment, labor in low-paid employment, and natural resources, it’s time to go up sustainable development, the country needs to rapidly switch to a new development form which is mainly relied on talent and intelligence.
Therefore, making education prosper never becomes a task as urgent as this time.
13 years ago, the central government determined a resolution to develop education, training and socio-technology as a top national policy.
This resolution was very accurate, but regretted that the implementation exists more inadequacies.
So after near 10 years, the prime minister Phan Van Khai admitted that we hadn’t succeed in education and technology.
Despite of the increasing investment in education and efforts to restructure the management of 2 recent years, we still remain to lag behind in comparison with the region and the world.
According to global supervising report about education of UNESCO in 2008, recently presented, VietNam continued to lose points about educational development index for everybody (EDI) and to lag 8 levels in ranked table EDI in 5 years from 2004 to 2008, was behind Malaysia, Indonesia, even China which had been inferior to EDI in comparison with Vietnam
In term of university, more reliable data showed the enormous lag of their universities as compared with Thailand or Malaysian universities about scientific research- an important criteria to evaluate universitarian quality.
According to WEF’s evaluation, education and training is one of three vital sectors, the most alarming in Vietnam.
The weakness in education was reflected clearly in global competitive ability of Vietnam in 2008, dropped 2 levels, and took off 4 levels in 2007.
