Dear Kayla,
I’m sorry, that we haven’t communicated for a long time.
But I know that we both were extremely busy.
Nevertheless I hope this gap didn’t spoil our relationships.
You know, a lot of unforgettable things happened with me during this time.
However, let me tell you about only one occasion which made me feel various emotions.
So, it was two months ago, in the end of July.
One day my classmate Natalie rang up.
I picked up the phone (although I’d regretted in consequence).
- O, hey darling, - she started, - what’s new?
How are you spending your holidays? - Well hello! I’m fine!
I have got great holidays! And you?
Frankly speaking, I was not happy as I can’t stand Natalie.
She’s spoilt, lazy, irresponsible; sometimes rude hence she’s not exactly the life and soul of the party.
So, Natalie continued…. - Me too!
To be honest, I was just ringing to invite you at my birthday party.
Do you remember about it, don’t you?
Actually, I didn’t remember about Natalie’s birthday because I merely didn’t know!
We never were close friends.
Moreover we never were usual friends at all!
Therefore it was “a bit” strange that she invited me at her birthday party, just like that.
- Of course, I remember.
But unfortunately I can’t cause… cause I’m leaving, - I replied uncertainly. - What a pity!
And when will you arrive? – she asked.
I was not sure what I should answer because I didn’t know the exact birthday’s date.
At first I was going to tell lies that I was leaving my town forever.
However I understood it was a silly idea.
When I go to school I meet her every day.
Therefore if I had told lies her she would have found out it later.
In the end I decided to say something that could prevent me from going to the fete without a doubt.
- Well, I will be in the town approximately in September, - I said.
- Now I don’t understand what’s up?
– she wondered.
– My birthday is in October.
I was in shock!
Why did she invite me so early?
After that I remembered that Natalie was in a not unusual habit of reminding about any holidays much earlier.
But my memories didn’t rescue the situation. I had failed.
So, in two months I went to the Natalia’s birthday party.
I presented her flowers, the book “East of Eden” by John Steinbeck and beauty-set for girls in their mid-teens.
At the party there were five teenagers else.
Two of them, Gabriel and Jasmine, were simply classmates for me and the best friends for Natalia.
Others were unfamiliar for me.
At first the birthday girl acquainted me with them, I mean with Emily, Melissa and Landon.
I seemed they were not bad people.
To my mind they were different from Natalie, Gabriel and Jasmine.
It all started with a festive table.
Everybody wished the birthday girl only the best.
Gabriel and Jasmine said usual, primitive words.
But Emily, Melissa and Landon had interesting, extraordinary phrases.
In the first minutes I like divided our company in my thoughts because the difference was obvious.
I couldn’t understand how such different people might hobnob.
I thought so not only because of eloquence.
Melissa, Emily and Landon were kind, polite, and also considerate.
However Natalie, Gabriel and Jasmine were opposite persons.
We spend fun time.
We took part in any cheerful competitions, song karaoke sings, danced and so on.
I noticed that Emily supported any ideas, but Jasmine said it was stupid.
However Emily tried to find a compromise and she managed.
Melissa said that Natalie’s dress was nice, but Natalie didn’t even reply “thanks”, in contrast she said that Melissa’s blouse was out-of-date.
The birthday girl was so inattentive that she didn’t unwrap boxes with presents.
When we were leaving the house, Landon helped every girl on her overcoat, but Gabriel had pushing everybody and went off.
My route and the route of Melissa, Emily and Landon were same.
Initially we communicated very well. But later….
Every of them started telling awful things about Natalie and her friends.
They said that Gabriel and Jasmine were stupid dears, and Natalie was an ugly hence.
Then they admitted that they came at this party because they had only one “important” reason.
Emily, Landon and Melissa wanted to have something that they could remember in the future!
I didn’t understand what had happened.
Landon turned into unpleasant guy who spitted and used bad words.
Girls became gossips.
When I reached my house I was so disappointed.
I believed I made new good friends, I admired them… but actually they were false.
Frankly speaking I liked Natalie with her friends more than Melisa, Landon and Emily.
Yes, Natalie, Gabriel and Jasmine were not idyllic.
But everybody knew it and didn’t expect from them honorable actions.
They were real!
That’s how it is.
I want, dear Kayla that you will never be in the same situation.
So, I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
Best wishes,
Tania.
