  • Climate change

  • Climate Change It is an article from the NY Times which treats about a scientifical study showing up bad consequences on humans of the rise of temperatures on Earth.
  • It explains that humidity added to high heat make it difficult for bodies to reduce their temperature.
  • It recalls us then that when it is hot, we have a biological mechanism: we sweat in order to reduce our temperature.
  • But when the air is full of humidity, there is no place for sweat to evaporate.
  • So the result is often hyperthermia which can be dangerous because it can lead to death.
  • At a geographical scale, the problem is that warm-water coasts such as in the Persian Gulf would be the first affected by the rise of degrees since oceans in these regions already bring humidity.
  • At a human scale, the journalist highlights the fact that this time the weakest persons will not be the only one concerned by this problem since the fittest and the healthiest will be too.
  • Although, the poorest, who are generally least to blame in the climate change, will certainly be the first victims, as usual.
  • The article finishes with the assumption that maybe some parts of the earth will be uninhabitable by 100 or 200 centuries.
  • So, about this article, I think that maybe people are fed up of hearing “worst-case scenarios”.
  • They are not scared anymore.
  • In fact, I think people are underestimating climate change because of that, but also because of many other reasons.
  • For example, scientists before had predicted certain things that didn't happened, that northen people are not feeling directly the consequences yet, decrédibilsée by the successives failures of international treaties such as kyoto protocole or Copenhagen Summit.
  • So, I think that Climate change should be one of our biggest priority in the world now and it is not taken as it should be.
