We should not forget that Hopper's work places itself in Transceldantalism.

Which is a movement that developed in the late 1820-1830 in the Unetid-States, one of the transcendentalists' core beliefs was in the inherent goodness of both people and nature, in opposition to ideas of man as inherently sinful, or "fallen," and nature as something to be conquered.

In the sense, we can establish a link between Hopper and Henri David Thoreau who was an American author, poet, philosopher of 19th century, he is best known for his book Walden, which reflect Transceldantalism.

Indeed is a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings.

Now we going to interest in an extract of walden which is representative for Transcendantalism.

In this extract we can see apology of Nature, in fact the sentence ; “ The ambrosial and essential part of the fruit”shows that nature, which symbolised by the fruit have an heavenky side.

Moreover the apology of nature was raises by the contrast with the society life with the setence “ having had a surfeit of human society and gossip”.

As well as we can see the link with Hopper who uses, in his paintings, the same contrast between nature and urban landscapes to make a critisism of urbanism.

And more presisely the link wih the notion of power, in fact Walden fit into power of art, art being a way to express, to inform and especially to criticize.
