The visual recognition memory is the capacity to recognize that a stimulus has already been seen, it allows us to recognize places, objects or people.

This ability is based on two separate concepts : the familiarity which would be fast and automatic and the recollection, slower and controlled.

The literature admits that the hippocampus is a key structure of the visual recognition memory but our study is based on a new intracerebral decoding method : the MVPA, which predicts that the hippocampus might not be involved in the familiarity processes.

Thanks to the deep implanted electrodes in the structures that we are trying to study and to this innovative technology, new items might redesign the existing model of the visual recognition memory.
