About parents
- Well, this very important question.
- Parents have a huge influence on their child, they are the biggest source of external motivation for the student.
- I think it is vitally important to involve parents in the education process and establish qualitative student-teacher-parent relationships.
- How I as a teacher would do this?
- I suppose there are a number of ways.
- As far as I know this is a common thing for parents (and even grandparents) in China to visit the lessons.
- Why wouldn’t a teacher try to engage them into a classroom activity together with children where it is possible.
- Why wouldn’t I ask them to make some work on decorating a classroom, preparing different visual aids (like posters, bulletins, project materials) or even organize a family competition in the classroom, if there is any possibility to do this.
- Then, I suppose I need to keep up parents abreast of what is going on in a classroom.
- In my opinion, parents need to visit different momentous and appropriate events.
- I also think it would be good to introduce a tradition of sending weekly or biweekly letters, and these letters should not necessary inform the parents about bad academic results or behavior.
- On the contrary, throughout this opportunity I would like to introduce complementing letters on a good behavior.
- Then, it would be great if there are any PTA (parent teachers association) meeting, where I can communicate with parents, coach them how they can help a child to succeed.
- And it would be great to recruit a bilingual parent to help with communication in a classroom.
