In your letter you said that some tv programme are very good and can to learn loads of stuff no worse than books.
I am absolutely agree with your opinion.
There are a lot of different types of educational programs.
And it is really better and simpeler learn something new from visual input.
As for me, I prefer economical and historical programmes to watch.
Unfortunately, not all people watch educational programmes and so it lead less educated generation.
But I think that in different times there are less and well educated people.
And so it is not so big problem.
