Indeed, a series a laws was enacted to achieve total separation, both geographical, political, social and cultural, different ethnic groups inhabiting South Africa.
So I defend civils rights !
Black and their supporters had to fight to eliminate segregationand win equal rights.
The first large episode in the movement, a boycott of the city buses in Alabama, was touched off by the refusal of one black woman, Rosa Parks, to give up her seat on a bus to a whrite person.

The federal civils rights Act authorized federal action against segregation in public accommodation, public facilities and employment.
After such legislative victories, the civil rights movement must now take care of education and change the attitudes of whrite people !
