My friend, the former muslim extremist
- Rafi is a young Pakistani who used to hate the United States and support the Taliban.
- He grew up in a violent and poor environment but particularly religious.
- His life changed when, in one of the best public school, he attended the classes of a charismatic extremist teacher who turned Rafi into a Taliban sympathizer.
- He began to think Taliban were freedom fighters and turned into a conspirationist.
- As lots of leaders of great terrorist organizations managed to achieve high degrees in college, education isn't always the antidote to extremism as it can turn students into puppets unable to have any critical thinking.
- He completely changed when he entered College where he found girls were not the second-rate minds he thought they were.
- Instead, he came upon talented women.
- He now thinks investing in girl's education could change entire societies.
- According to him, extremist american voices like Trump's empower extremist voices throughout the Islamic world.
- Instead of spending money on wars, we should be spending money on the education of women.
- It would be way more efficient against extremism, in a long-term.
- For example, women would have less children and the youth would be reduced.
- And youth is one of the factors that correlates to wars and terrorism.
- Too many people ignore the power of an educated woman's mind on boy ones.
