Nobody from nowhere”.

More than a self-made man, Gatsby is a “self-invented” man, who by lying, conceal his mediocre real past, from his humble origins to the criminal origin of his wealth; Gatsby carefully sculpts an impeccable new persona and life for himself, with which he pretends to win daisy’s love.

Although it may sound attractive the idea of Gatsby having an endless almighty love towards Daisy, the reality is that he does not truly love her, but objectifies, idealizes and worships his dream; he needs to incarnate his desires in someone and Daisy is ideal for this purpose, for she symbolize wealth and, the purity, youth and beauty of a past he wants to get back.

Nick generally dodges Gatsby’s controversial sides and focus on his greatness that sadly would drive him to his fall, which is his perseverance Gatsby is not like the rest, careless people who just aspire to an empty existence of mundane excess; he does not even drink, he concerns himself with higher aspirations that he genuinely believes reachable.
