The actual society of the developed world is not very different from the one Fitzgerald deplores: Nowadays not just the richest, but also most middle class people devote their lives to excess and frivolous goals.

The worst part of all it is that the actual capitalistic system together with the media, design personalized “green lights” for all of us, and it does no matter whether our imposed desire is to have a perfect body or to acquire a jaguar, they are always burdens to our mental and spiritual health.

“It is the romantic assumption of this aspect of the “American dream” that all the magic of the world can be had for money.” We aspire to be careless, like Tom, Daisy and the celebrities whom masses worship as heroes, although they have never done anything worthy of admiration.
