During a recent class discussion your teacher made the following statement: Modern technologies have given us access to vast amount of information.

However, in general we use information for entertainment, not for practical purposes.

Your teacher has now asked you to write an essay on the subject, saying how far you agree with the statement.

Modern technologies are a key point in the 21st century.

In fact, they have changed our world.

We may use them to obtain information or for entertainment.

More than that, this period of time has been coined the Knowledge Age because of modern technologies.

In this essay I will explore if people use ICT s more for having fun or with practical aims.

Let us begin by clarifying what the concept of new technologies means.

It deals with a list of technological devices which are used as a source of information, a tool of job or study or communicate among people or simply for having fun.

Some examples are computers, mobiles, tablets, IPOD´s, consoles and so on.

Another important point is these devices are changing all the time because of the science.

I want to say that the most modern mobile today will be thought old dated in three months.

On the one hand, modern technologies make easier our lives.

For example, the first time we go somewhere we can find the place without problems thanks to a GPS or when we have to elaborate an essay is much easier to do today than twenty years ago thanks to Internet and a word processor.

However, this importance of ICTS may lead to an addiction.

We do not know how to live without them.

For instance, in my personal case it would be really hard for me to spend a whole week without using my mobile or my computer.

On the other hand, new technologies give us so many possibilities that they are overused.

Above all, people who have too much free time.

It is important to consider that children are familiar with ICTs from the first years of their lives.

What is more they are considered digital natives.

Children and teenager may spend the whole day using new technologies for entertainment.

This fact may be dangerous without the supervision of an adult.

For this reason, teachers and family should control and supervise the use and the time kids are with new technologies.

In conclusion, we have seen that modern technologies have a wide variety of uses and depending on the situation of every person they may be used with practical purposes or for entertainment.

It is a great idea to deal with the good use of technologies since the childhood.
