Two Simple Words
Mallory did happy somesaults all around the house.
She and Mommy were going to Aunt Vicki's house.
Mallory and Jason, Aunt Vicki's son, were friends, too.
Their mommies drank iced tea and talked while Mallory and Jason splashed in the wading pool and made mud pies in the corner of Aunt Vicki's garden.
They drank cold lemonade, telling funny stories and making silly noise.
Mallory didn't want to go home when Mommy called.
Mallory's face froze in an angry pout as she picked up toys.
Aunt Vicki held out a shiny hair barrette with "Mallory" written in pink glitter paint across the top and a pink bow hanging down.
Mallory really liked the barrette and she knew that she should say "Thank you" to Aunt Vicki but she didn't.
She was too busy being mad because she had to go home.
Jason help Mallory to say "Thank you!". Mommy laughed.
Aunt Vicki laught.
Mallory laughed, too.
She said: "I'm sorry, Aunt Vicki.
Thank you for the barrette, it's pretty."
