I read a good expression "keep up with the Joneses" which is used when you don't want to look worse than your neighbors.
People around me often don't want to be the richest or the most successful.
They just want to keep up with the Joneses.
They are not too successful in their opinion, as the most people associate success with richness and power.
I wrote a few biographies of successful people like John Rockefeller, the first millionaire.
I assume that there were some typical features there.
All of these people were obsessed with the success and wealth.
As a result, they could be even not happy in their personal life, they could be unfair and cruel even with their kin.
If success is like a drug for you, you need to stop yourself and take a look around yourself.
There will always be a lot of more successful people than you and everybody need to appreciate everything you already have.
