Titanic is a good film that was catapulted into becoming a great, best picture winning film.
The film which cost 200 million dollars came along and blinded critics and audiences alike into being overcome with gritty delight that a smart action film can be made.
It was great, Titanic T-Shirts, posters, soundtracks, calendars, documentaries, truth-telling interviews became the rage.
Divorce yourself from that as you watch the movie and you may feel the uneven film that you have on your hands. .....
However, there's a positive aspect of this blockbuster to acknowledge: it proves that nobody uses special effects like Cameron.
As he did before in The Abyss, Aliens or Terminator even when the budget was not yet there for him.
There is one particular shot, the scene in which the point of view is from above.
In one uninterrupted glimpse, we see the ship from bow to stern, with flags flying and hundreds of passengers on the deck.
We know for sure that this shot was a special effect.
That they did not rebuild the Titanic to make the movie; nevertheless, it looks like the real thing, is completely convincing in its details.
It's a triumph of reconstructed realism, is a Cameron moment.
For what I’ve expressed this far it may seem I have a negative review to give for this film, well that’s not the case.
Even when the quality of the dialogue and characters is low, in general terms Titanic screenplay is good enough to me.
In some moments the characters give us a deep and emotional story that we can’t help falling for.
The love story and the way is developed overcome the bad fragments.
My recommendation is that is movie to watch if you really don't have at hand any better option.
On the other hand, LA CONFIDENTIAL is a must if you haven't yet see it.
