Advertising can tell about a country, but it is necessary to keep in mind that it still advertisement and it has their reasons to be, which is sell a product.

Advertise about a country is nonetheless than sell the idea that the country is a good place to visit, a nice place for tourism.

Usually they have a biased view of nations, which tends to boost good points and ignore negative characteristics.

For instance, we can use my country, Brazil, as an example.

Any TV commercial about Brazil will show wonderful beaches on Rio de Janeiro, occupied by beautiful women.

The soundtrack would probably be some samba song and it would end with beautiful woman dancing on the sand.

If it is a longer commercial, maybe it shows the Amazonia forest or some historical places on Minas Gerais or Salvador.

Advertisements are a fictional point-of-view of the country.

Brazilians do not go to the beach all the time and most people do not even like samba.

It is expected that commercial does not present problems like the violence or the great amount of poor people, however, this not reflect how is live here.

Further, I do not believe that kind of advertisement is exclusive from Brazil.

Every country probably does the same.

French commercials would show a romantic Paris with cafés and art exhibitions yet Paris is much more than just people drinking coffee and speaking about old movies.

It is possible to use advertisements as a source of information about a country but it is not prudent take decisions using only these information.

The best sources are usually people who live in the place and they can honestly tell you where you can have an authentic dish for a fair price, or what neighborhood fits better with your tastes.

Digg the internet, make friends on social sites.

People are willing to talk about their countries and, to be honest, in my opinion, every spot is worth to visit because every place has something interesting to see, to learn or to listening.

We do not need commercial to tell us how awesome the world it is.
