I am supposed to tell you about coming age in the East.
Everybody heard that people in the East countries live much longer that people in other places.
However, do we know something about it exactly?
We often use words age and old or older but what do we really mean by these words?
For me for example, word old means somebody who is over 50 or 60 years old.
But the definition of this word in Europe does not match the same one in Asian countries.
First, it should be said that East age reckoning system is different from the one in Europe.
The first year of life is counted as one instead of zero so that a person is one year old in their first year, two years old in their second and so on.
Following this system, people may be one or two years older in the East than in other places of the world.
And now I would like to talk about the oldest people in the East.
From the university course of the geography, we know that only in Japan there are more than 10 thousand people over 100 years!
Just think a bit about this number.
Do you know many people reached 100 years?
Moreover, the average age in Japan approximately equals to 46 years.
For reference, Russian middle age equals to 37 years.
You can also find many old people in another part of the East.
In Taiwan today live about 1,5 thousand people over 110 years.
It really is amazing!
Japan and Korea are in the lead of amount of long-livers.
But it has its own disadvantages.
In 20 years a number of retirees will achieve about 40% of the population.
It would be very dangerous for their economics and the common future.
Many government employees are worried about this problem, but today nobody knows what the way of solving the problem is the best one.
We can only predict how these countries will look like.
