In an official statement, the Open Society Foundation stated that the Hungarian government is trying to silence the academic freedom in a private and independent university, with a law aimed to single out the Central European University.

They explained that “the attack on CEU is jeopardizing the cooperation with the Hungarian institutions, and could damage Hungary’s credibility as a centre of innovation, academic excellence, and scientific research.

According to the people in charge of the Open Society Foundation, the fact they put a gag on CEU and the firm grip on Soros’ activities would have strong consequences on Hungarian citizens.
