  • A Book Review

  • The Lunyu biecai was written by Nan Huaijin.
  • It was first published in 1976 by the Ancient Cultural Work Company of Taiwan.
  • Since then the book has been printed for eighteenth times.
  • The latest version was pressed in 2005 by the mainland publisher called Fudan University Press, which was established in 1978 and played an important role in China.
  • The author named Nan Huaijin has been enjoying a famous reputation, and having dedicated his life to the field of Chinese Culture such as Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism as well as that of building a good relationship between mainland and Taiwan.
  • So far, Mr. Nan had written over 30 books, having been regarded as a great professor in the field of Chinese Paleography.
  • Lunyu, the classic book of Confucianism, succinctly relates conversations between the teacher Confucius and his students.
  • As expressed in ancient Chinese characters, Professor Nan offered reader’s active stories, then composed them into the book named Lunyu biecai by Professor Nan, to describe what the contents mean and also interpreted why their conversation can be flown for thousand years.
  • The contents included value guidelines such as establishment of relationships between families, friends, and performance in work, etc. This has attracted those who are interested in, including foreign people to have a look.
  • Therefore the composition has been translated into eight different languages so far.
  • One of the obvious pieces of symbolism in the story is the Twelfth Chapter Yan Yuan, who followed Confucius since he was fourteen and earned the most prizes from his tutor.
  • At that time he had been expected as the best inheritor of Confucius.
  • However he died at the age of thirties.
  • Though living in the later period of Lu Dynasty, the chaotic times of war, he never gave up on his studies.
  • Either harsh wears or being starved, he neglected these outside conditions, only focused in what he believed.
  • It is a good book to read for people who are trying to be better.
  • We may feel confused in life when we somehow make mistakes and no one explains why this could have happened to us, or when we lose confident and stay in anemia for a long time because we failed many times.
  • This book gives us an objective to directly review our life.
