I applied for European Studies, because Europe is my home continent, and I originate from two european countries myself, hence I am very interested in Europe's history and future.
The european unification process with its advantages and disadvantages fascinates me, as well as the european history, with some countries in whom I am more interested than others, for example France, England, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands.
My main interests in the programme are thus the history of Europe and the European Union, and the politics of and regarding the European Union.
Moreover, I wanted to study in the Netherlands, because I am half-dutch while I grew up in Germany.
Also, there are no similar studies in Germany available, and the Open Day made a good impression on me.
First I wanted to study International Relations, but as a combination of politics with history, cultural studies and a little bit of philosophy, European Studies seems more interdisciplinary and thus more interesting to me, while it still offers (more or less) the same opportunities as a International Relations Programme.
