  • University Motivation 2

  • I want to study at university because it gives me, unlike school, the chance to get professional education in subjects which I chose to learn about myself.
  • The life as a student is also something i want to experience, and of course, the job opportunities in my field of interest for university students are more plenty than for people who did not study at a university.
  • Please indicate what you expect from the Bachelor in European Studies [Use at least 150 words / at most 300 words]* My expectations for the study of European Studies at the University of Maastricht are a good education in different aspects of Europe, such as politics, history, philosophy and international relations.
  • I hope, that I can learn more about topics which interest me a lot, such as the process of european integration and the development of the European Union, when I study about these subjects, among others, at the University.
  • Also I am interested in the history of Europe, and I hope that my hopes of a combined study of history and international relations and other important social sciences can be fulfilled by absolving this study.
  • Additionally, I expect to get in touch with other people, who have the same or similar interests as I do, and get to know them, as well as work and discuss with them, during my time as a student.
  • All together, I expect an interesting study, with many different approaches to discover as many as possible aspects of Europe, while getting to know other people and enjoying the life as a student as well.
  • Please indicate some contemporary political, social and/or economic issues that you are particularly interested in [Use at least 60 words / at most 100 words].* At the moment I am particularly interested in the following issues: 1.
  • The european financial crisis, and the developments, which follow because of it. 2.
  • The rise of eurosceptic parties in many european countries. 3.
  • The liberalisation and secularization of european societies and its impact on daily life in Europe. 4.
  • The role of culture and identity of the european peoples in the time of globalization. 5.
  • How political theories are implemented, and how those theories change with time. 6.
  • Different aspects of Immigration and a multicultural society.
  • How do you think European Studies can help understanding these issues (PS Please indicate an issue relevant to European Studies) [Use at least 200 words / at most 300 words]?* When I have questions and issues I am interested in, I am always looking for as much as possible options to increase my knowledge about it, and form my own opinion.
  • Often however, the only source of knowledge which is always available is the internet.
  • It is not often the case, that I can see anything related to the given issues in Television, and the topics are to contemporary to be written about in books a lot.
  • Besides Newspapers and the Internet, which both give me information, there is nothing I can do to form my opinion and learn more about those topics.
  • At University, I imagine that I would have the chance to be educated by professors, who have dedicated years to issues like that, and to discuss with people that are interested in those or similar topics as well.
  • So in a study of European studies, I see the only way, to get a wide range of information, and personally work with people to learn and exchange opinion, and learn in a far more lasting and intense way than I ever could through the internet or books alone.
  • Concluded, I think that a study is of big importance to me, to answer my questions and concentrate on my interests for a long time.
