"Pygmalion", the Bernard Shaw's play tells the story of a profesor of phonetics Henry Higgins who try to change a poor young woman florist Eliza Doolittle, in a distinguished lady of the high society.
The title is tired of the myth of Pygmalion, the sculptor of Cyprus.
Indeed, we can observe many common points betwenn the myth and the play, that is explain the name of the piece.
Pygmalion and the profesor Higgins are two men who try and arrive to reach their ideal woman.
Higgins like a sculptor have "sculpted" Eliza with his lessons of behavior.
And they share the same arrogance, and the same opinion about women.
They hates women.
The only diference is that Higgins and Eliza do not fall in love, they are just friend in the end of the play.
Bernard Shaw has wanted create a parallel between his story and the myth to criticize inequality between differents social categories.
