I think it should be kind of mixed system and a strong state control.
The economy must not rule over society.
It's just a way to provide some necessary material goods, no more.
Man needs money but he's above money.
Unfortunately, occident society became a consumer society, that's why it risks to die.
As for violence (you've said that the capitalism brought less violence), it has incresed a lot since the middle ages.
Look, for example, what's happening in USA where nearly every month somebody's killed in school . Why?
The killer is rich enough, quite well-to-do, but something lacks him, somthing beyond money.
I don't even say how destructive the modern wars are, and many (how many!)of them are lead by America, a capitalistic state.
So, the money and the economy should not rule over society, should not prevail over it.
