On the beaches of an island near Naples, the heat rages.

A 16 years old boy spends the summer there with his family, as always.

But that year, things are about to change.

The child is becoming a man and his desire to discover the world is stronger than ever.

That summer, he learns about fishing, its art, its techniques, its difficulties and its influence on life, all this thanks to Nicola, a fisherman and friend of his father’s.

During the long and quiet hours they spend together on the boat, day or night, he tells the young man about pieces of his past that mix with the history of Italy: the war, Yugoslavia, the fear everywhere, the horror of the battles, and then the desire to move on without forgetting the past, without forgetting the mistakes.

In addition to all this, a young woman joins him on his journey toward adulthood.

She’s older, she’s foreign, she’s mysterious and the young fisher immediately feels for her a love that gets mixed with a strong and almost paternal tenderness.

She’s Jewish, she keeps in her heart injuries that she lasts a lot before sharing with the young man, but which will help him complete his investigation about the history of World War 2, from a different point of view.

She will help him get to know himself through some gestures that are not his and make him do and feel things he had never imagined he would do or feel.

A simple but moving story that stages adolescence and its doubts, questions, desires to know and to feel in the right way.

All this happening on the beaches of an Italian island, where summer seems to pass without leaving hints, out of time, like in a dream, and where the only things that can take us back to reality are the marks left by the fishing lines on the hands or by the past stories in the heart.
