Help me to correct it. (6.25) 1st

“Yes, I'm fat, but spare us the cruelty this summer”

I can understand this sentence want to express the bad feeling of fat person. But I cannot understand why in this sentence, writer uses “I”, then he/she uses “us”. What the word “us” means?
