I want to ask following questions to get familiar with French, thank you!

1. In French, do you have an icon such as Marilyn Monroe which means someone who made a name for herself in world of show business and who died young a dog's death yet still has influence in a way that person lived is being passed on to younger generation? I'm going to learn some French from her/ his quotes, so if you know someone who has one, it would be appreciated.

2. I would like to know who to listen to in French! What do you recommend for listeners of Vampire Weekend-like alternative, also Chemical Brother-like or Kings of Leon-like indie rock? Also is it only you-tube to enjoy online or do you know somewhere I can browse these kind of musicians?
