About a year and a half ago I started to talk to an English teacher from Bogota, Colombia. We swapped e-mail addresses and began to practice using MSN, helping each other with languages, English and Spanish. I had always wanted to go to Colombia, and then I received an e-mail from the University promoting a summer school in Colombia, so that night I told my pen-pal about my plans, to which she responded that me and my twin brother could stay with her and her family, naturally I was cautious about this as I had never met anybody of the Internet before and it would be thousands of miles from home, so we continued talking and It was planned that we'd stay for 2 weeks before the course and fly home afterwards but we booked the return tickets leaving us with 2 weeks after the course as well. So the time came for us to go, and after a long flight I was just hoping that they'd be there as our flight get delayed and we had to wait a while to get through customs as we didn't fill in all the forms, so we headed outside with our bags and started to walk through the crowds when I saw my friend and her son, the same as as me and my brother, waiting for us waving and holding signs with our names on. We got to their house and they had food waiting for us and they we so hospitable. Over the two weeks we did a lot, taught in the institute where she works, wet sight seeing, and of course checked out the nightlife :) Before we left it was out birthday and they held a party for us with neighbours, family and friends and it was the best birthday party ever. We returned from our course in Cartagena, where my the son of the family in Bogota, travelled 20 hours to see us for a week, and we went to the beach and had a great time. It was time to return to Bogota and again we had a busy 2 weeks of visiting places with our new family. And the night before returning to England was the night of the concert 'Te Quiero Bogota' We went and the last song to be played was Cabas 'Bonita' which was 'our song' which led to people getting sad :( Before we left we went to visit the rest of the family, which was hard to do as we had grown so close to us, they weren't like family they were family. We said an emotional goodbye to everybody and went home to back, where we were given presents and cards from them which led to more tears haha. The next day we were waiting at the airport and the aunt and cousin came to the airport to see us off and again was very emotional. Since being back I have spoken to my friend and her family more than ever and we are now in the process of arranging a visit for them to come with the possibility of staying :) I would just like to thank Polyglot for being the great website that it is because this whole experience wouldn't have been possible without this website, and me and my brother have met the best friends and family who we love so much and are looking forward to seeing them here soon.
