NOW, SCHOOLS TAKE AIM AT POOR WRITERS.
In her article, „Now schools take aim at poor writers”, the author Solorzano Lucia (1984) reports that the young people have enormous difficulties in creating correctly the paper works.
First the author criticizes the teaching’s method of grammar and spelling at schools an then give three examples of how the writing skills may be honed more rigorously.
This text deals also in more detail with the problem of using by students the improper grammar when writing dissertations.
In educators’ opinion who were mentioned in one of the paragraphs, the possible reason for that is the influence of many electronic devices which the young people have grown up with.
In that way the students do not focus so much on using proper grammar and spelling words correctly.
And sincerely, it is not an easy task for the teachers to encourage students to put their thought on paper.
The authors shows that it is important to consider the change in behaviour of the involved people, namely students and teachers in order to improve writing skills.
It includes e.g. the special trainings for the teachers who consequently should require of the students more accuracy and concentration.
In the next part there were described exemplary efforts in respect to this question.
The most complete review of classroom writing presents the survey of the Stanford University Professor in 1981, which has showed that only 3 percent of homework assignments and lesson time referred to the writing process.
Since that research considerable number of schools have paid more attention to written tasks.
In the text the reader gets also to know that checking each other’s papers make the students more careful to punctuation rules.
The authors recalls still the Bay Area Writing Project in 1973 which has introduced many teachers to correct writing, so that they could better instruct the young people.
It is crucial to manage to all writing steps, which should be used when writing the dissertation.
In the conclusion, the author states that many find the study successful and the good point is that both the teacher and the students gave this program more confidence and indicated the new point of view.
