Today I'm going to talk about the idea of progress.
Progress can be defined as a movment towards a goal or a higher state, or development activities.
It can be found in lots of fields, like in the economy, the social field, or in science.
But progress can sometimes be seen as dangerous.
How does progress in our society transform people's lives ?
First, I'm going to talk about the advantages of progress in our society.
Then I'll talk about the disadvantages and the dangers of this progress.
In class, we've studied about Couch Surfing.
It's a site that provides a great improvment to travel easily and meet people from all around the world.
It has become a very useful site with today's globalization.
Social networks show the improvment of the Internet too.
You can create personal blogs, share photos and videos, meet new people...
In the topic of transport, progress is great for the tourism industry and travelling.
It is also of a great help for environment, such as ecotransport and special districts.
The phone, too, has become the most useful technology nowadays.
It is said to provide a better life, it's practical, allows you to tchat, use apps which are supposed to make your life easier.
We've also studied about virtual school, which provides lessons ajusted to your own mind, at home.
It is great to make the best out of a child.
Moreover, progress is useful in the fields of medicine, art...
But progress can also have a bunch of drawbacks and limits.
Taking again the example of social networks, you can become addicted to them and lose the sense of reality.
Facebook can be especially dangerous.
People judge you constantly and it can influe a lot on your self-esteem.
Some fotos might be a problem when searching for a job.
In the same way, you can become addicted to your phone and being unable to live correctly without it.
You are also less focused on reality, and drawn in a virtual world.
Phone are very expensive too, and some people have the tendency to buy expensive phones while they have trouble paying their debts.
Finally, virtual schools sometimes cut the relations between children so they don't have any interaction with people of their own age.
So in conclusion, I'd say that progress can be a great source of improvment in a society, regarding education, travel, and the confort of life.
But we have to be careful about it, because it can draws us in a fictional world, makes us lose social relations, and become addicted to new tecnologies.
