  • Motivation letter

  • Dear ★★★ University representatives I am a second year student of (my subject) at Charles University in Prague and I am writing to apply for a (kind of) Scholarship to become able to participate in the International Summer School 2016 at the University of (some English name).
  • I was excited to learn about the opportunity to apply for this scholarship as it would give me a chance to participate in this Summer School Program.
  • It was about a year ago when I heard many positive references about the Program from my senior, (name), who was fortunate to become one of the participants to the Program two years ago and then also from my classmates (name) and (name again) who were chosen to participate last year.
  • The many lectures they had attended there meant for both of them an important starting point for their nowadays research.
  • As I was given to understand there appeared exceptional guests to give a lecture in previous years, among them for example the professor Great.
  • I greatly respect professor Great’s work and it would be of my biggest honour were I to meet a persona of her stature and importance in the field of (some kind of) anthropology and anthropology generally.
  • In summer 2015 I was chosen as a representative of the Czech Republic in the “★★★ Program for Overseas Students 2015” at (some far away country), mediated by the (country's) embassy in Prague.
  • For me this stay was a great experience of a living language and besides a considerable improvement in ★★★ it also meant to me a significant encouragement for my next study.
  • It has always been one of my biggest aspirations to major the subject of (as stated above).
  • When I was on high school I was confronted with (that) culture for the first time and it immediately became a special matter to my heart.
  • I was charmed by the many differences diverging from the standards I had been raised in.
  • On the other hand I also liked discovering the features we both have in common.
  • Then I entered the Charles University in order to devote myself to the study of ★★★ people and to master the ★★★ language.
  • As for the purpose of my studies I would like to come to a full understanding of the ★★★ culture, its historical background, political context, and last but not least the economy outcomes and how this all influence its people, all of which I find to be very fascinating.
  • At present I am focusing mainly on the study of ★★★ language, consequently I also study classical ★★★, society, literature, history to have a broader grasp of the whole.
  • Philology and the language overall has an exceptional significance to me.
  • I have always been interested in the relation between language, thought and human behaviour.
  • Why differences occur between cultures and the subject of patterns of cultures fascinates me and I would like to head in this direction even in the future.
  • I am eager and determined to overcome any problems or difficulties on the way to my goals.
  • I like encountering new things and situations, meeting new people and being confronted with new thoughts and opinions.
  • Now that I am on my way to successfully complete the second year of my studies I would like to take advantage of the recently gained knowledge and make it to some use even outside the borders of our university and share my enthusiasm for the subject also with other international students, to learn new things that go even beyond my ordinary curriculum so I could broaden my horizons and gain even more profound insight into the subject.
  • Another significant advantage of the Program I perceive is it is being held entirely in English.
  • I am accustomed to using English as a medium for my study, as many materials are in English only, nevertheless the language in which the lectures are delivered at my university is Czech and so are the discussions on the subject.
  • For that reason I would like to become more experienced when speaking in the language that is not my mother tongue.
  • For my future career I regard it to be very meaningful to develop some academic language knowledge and a skill that would enable me to give a fluent and confident performance on the subject.
  • ★★★ is not only a very specific country as such but in the eyes of many Europeans it still has somewhat of an exotic aura to it.
  • In the future I would like to contribute to the mutual understanding, for if people can understand one another they can also share sympathy and in effect, cooperate much easily.
  • Through the prism of different cultures we can rediscover our own roots and learn how to refine and appreciate our own culture, while at the same time to stay humble and respectful to others.
  • It is important to search for cultural differences not for shallow comparison but to reflect our own selves and seek improvement.
  • I believe ★★★ culture is an exact instance of a country having much potential for us Europeans in this account.
  • ... the end didn't fit... but I would be really really grateful if someone was so kind to correct my messy text. Thank you ❤
