  • The United Kingdom and Spain, two old nations that have been rivals in many occasions throughout their long history, have many historic factors in common.
  • Both are a nation state resulting of the union of many ancient kingdoms.
  • Both have the oldest reigning monarchies of Europe.
  • These two Imperial nations had also an important role in the European expansion throughout the world, leaving a cultural legacy in many of the modern nation, especially in America.
  • Both countries have produced two of the most well-known writers worldwide, Shakespeare and Cervantes.
  • It is a noteworthy coincidence that both authors died the same month of the same year, 1616.
  • Most importantly, Spain and the United Kingdom are both the place of birth, from the perspective of their international projection, of the most widely spread languages of our times: English and Spanish.
  • It is not surprise that having so many aspects in common in their historical trajectory and national identity, the British and the Spaniards always showed interest in getting to know each other better.
  • People in the United Kingdom have always been very curious of Spain and, despite their rivalry with Spain in several times in their history, the British admire the Spaniards.
