new vocabulary
- I've been reading a book for children and found o ut I am terrible with vocabulary.
- Here some sentences I need help with : To make an appalling row means "faire un bruit de tous les diables" in other words being very noisy.
- To show a sly grin would means you have something, not very good in mind, while smiling in French un sourire narquois.
- This one I do not understand at all : "Billy's every word plumed the air like smoke".
- For the context poor Billy is looking at a person eating non cooked pork (I spare you the full description) and feels squeamish.
- A friend tells him he is squeamish and Billy says he is not as he is good hunting, fishing, gutting fish and butchering steers, but he prefers cooked meat.
- By the way I do not get the difference between pig, pork and hog.
- Is it like in French Pig (le cochon) is the leaving animal, pork (le porc) the one we eat and hog would be... wild ?
- Thanks for your help.
