  • The bar chart illustrates the telephone usage in UK by three call categories (local – landline, national and international – landline, mobiles) between 1995 and 2002.
  • Units are given in billions of minutes.
  • Overall, most of the calls in each year of the described period were made using fixed line phones and, moreover, the majority of these calls were local calls.
  • Nevertheless, local calls saw the tendency to reduce in the last four years of the period, whereas mobile calls became more popular.
  • In 1995 people un UK spoke more than 70 billion minutes in local calls via fixed line.
  • This number grew up until 1999 when it peaked at 90 billion minutes, and in 2002 it returned to the value of 1995.
  • The amount of time spent on national and international calls increased steadily over these years from just below 40 to slightly above 60 billion minutes.
  • In terms of mobile calls, less than 5 billion minutes of calls were registered in 1995.
  • Then this time exceeded 10 billion minutes in 1999 and after that it boomed to about 45 billion minutes in 2002.
