Introduction
Having been asked from the Council members to write a report about the Shopping center impact on our city I will try to do my best on behalf of our citizenship.
I aim to balance on the one hand the second-to-none design of our mall which has become an indoor city perfect for the winter days; and, on the other hand,it is to blame for the disappearing of traditional shops.
Rave views and drawbacks over the big shopping center:
Firstly, I have a long list of positive facts to say about the effects of the new mall on our city.
Regarding the people answers to our survay, it has turned to be a snug environment where families go to spend time with their children.
It is true that a lively atmosphere,- amongst top-ten restaurants and leisurely activities such as cinema, amusement park...-, can be easily felt.
In addition many new jobs have been created: security guards, children instructors, waiters, waitresses, ushers, usherettes...but they are part time jobs.
Eventually, the drawbacks have to do with several aspects:
1st) The location on the outskirts makes it difficult to arrive at without a car, due to the low frequency of public transport.
2nd) Local and traditional shops are going into bankrupcy, and this fact could end obliging all of us to drive to buy at the cheaperand in the end unique mall.
People tend to spend several hours enjoying while buying on a daily basis, consequently the do not buy at the shops near their houses.
Future developments:
I would suggest to increase the frequency on public transport, and if we wanted to avoid the waping-out of local shoppers I would create a Union linked to the council in a way that we might allow the shoppers to run or take an important part in the local festivals when they take place, so by "making a killing" in some days along a year they could survive almost the rest of it.
