Why is the tomato red?

If your eye catch light of a specific wavelength you see a specific colour.
The colour you see depends on the wavelength.
Light can also consist of different wavelengths – if that is the case and your eye catch such light you see the mix of both colours.
If your eye catch light, which consist of every wavelength you see white.
“Seeing black” means your eye catch no light.
What happens when light hits a surface of some object, like a tomato?
Then every wavelength is absorbed except the wavelength which we see as red.
