Of course study books are excellent when you're learning foreign language.
But sometimes it may be boaring and you might be frustrated about a huge amount of new information.
So that's why I'm convinced you should include reading books in your learning! Just try it!
I've chosen "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" because it is my favorite part of series. What do I do?
I read one page of English version and pay attention on everything that I'm interested to.
It is new vocabulary in the majority, but sometimes I write down interesting grammar cases or unfamiliar sentence structures.
Then I may look up into Russian edition and compare my own ideas about translation of words, phrases or sentences.
One page can spend half an hour but it's not just wasting of time - it's helpful!
And my next step - I try to use new words or structure in my speech or writing.
The famost Hungarian polyglot Kató Lomb says in her book that reading books is her favorite way of learning languages.
I completely agree with her.
It's very enjoyable and exciting since you realize you have deal with "live" language.
