One European citizen in four is at risk of poverty.
- The extremely low salary level concerns 10% of the employed population.
- Also, child poverty is close to 27%.
- Europe Union has to respond to the request by those who have lagged behind, otherwise there can be no talk regarding upturn or rebound.
- This is the message sent out by the European commission in the conference called “The European Pillar of Social Rights”, which was held to promote social policies.
- Nowadays, one European citizen in four is at risk of poverty or social exclusion, and additionally in-work poverty, namely the extremely low salary level, concerns almost 10% of the employed population.
- Also, child poverty, which has almost reached 27%, is cause for extreme concern, therefore European Union needs to find a solution to all this.
- The situation is so critic that the social agenda cannot be postponed anymore.
- The European commission has suggested that member states should start taking a series of actions which will provide for appropriate salaries, guaranties for accessing to the essential services, for instance the right of housing, and measure to tackle poverty.
- The actions taken so far have produced/yielded results, but accessing to these services is often fragmented, making difficult to get help for those who are in need.
